ABOUT DAVIDE
Davide Pepe was born in Italy in 1970 and he lives and works in Bologna as an independent artist. Since 1995, he's been developing, filming and producing video art, dance videos, experimental short films and photography, collaborating also with other important avant-garde artists, producers and musicians like Lucio Dalla, Diamanda Galás, Andrew Liles, James Mackay, Steven Stapleton (Nurse with Wound), David Tibet (Current 93) and ZimmerFrei.
Over the past twenty years, his artistic practice evolved around the physical concept of the space-time continuum, a journey that intertwines art, science, and philosophy, in dialogue with the idea of
materia informis evoked by Saint Augustine in his
Confessions.
Davide also works as editor, compositor, sound designer and, since 2016, he teaches video editing at the fine arts academy of Bologna within the courses in Film and Audiovisual Languages, and since 2024 in Cinema and Experimental Animation.
He has recently been selected by Creative Folkestone for a two-week artist residency at Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage, in Dungeness. His video art works have been shown at the Julia Stoschek Foundation (Dusseldorf), at the Navy Officer's Club in Venice, at the State Archives in Florence, at the Performance Space New York, at the MCA (Chicago), at the Walker Art Center (Minneapolis), at the Barbican Center (London), at the Charlottenborg Gallery (Copenhagen), at Spazio C21 (Reggio Emilia).
Two of his short films ‘Little Boy’ and ‘Gardens of Light’ were selected in the Berlin Film Festival competition.
